Amaril Uniform has partnered with Insect Shield since 2018 in a limited scope to treat arc-rated flame-resistant apparel. Feedback has been very positive from our utilities whose employees opt-in to treat some of their apparel. Permethrin treatment is non-flammable, unlike DEET, which is flammable and creates added risk to arc-rated apparel. One utility that Amaril partners with found a complete reduction in time-loss due to tick bites and other insect related issues on employees who opted-in to wearing treated product. Brands, like Bulwark, also utilize Insect Shield to treat their line of arc-rated products.
As of June 1st, 2021, all arc-rated pants in Amaril general FR stores will reflect Insect Shield as an option below color and size choice. The default option will be "no". By selecting yes, customers are noting that they want their product treated by Insect Shield. Once treated, a garment cannot be returned or exchanged. Custom stores will not add the Insect Shield option automatically, but rather only by manager request will those stores be updated.
Please note, exterior retail garment stickers and tags will be removed prior to shipment to allow for treatment, and an Insect Shield tag will be sewn into the inside of the garment, noting treatment has been performed. No fabric garment labels (labels that include arc information and data) will be removed. All Insect Shield items will split onto their own order to allow other items to process and ship to you. Insect Shield treatment will take 2-3 weeks, as product is shipped to North Carolina for treatment. A fee will be applied online to each item requested with Insect Shield.
Insect Shield, and all permethrin treatments, do create a chemical smell. Please wash product once received, prior to wearing the first time. A note will be included in the box to remind you to wash your product, to reduce the Permethrin smell.

What is Permethrin?
According to the National Pesticide Information Center “Permethrin is an insecticide in the pyrethroid family. Pyrethroids are synthetic chemicals that act like natural extracts from the chrysanthemum flower. Permethrin is used in a number of ways to control insects. Products containing permethrin may be used in public health mosquito control programs. They may be used on food and feed crops, on ornamental lawns, on livestock and pets, in structures and buildings, and on clothing. Permethrin may also be used in places where food is handled, such as restaurants. Permethrin was first registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) in 1979, and was re-registered in 2006.” Source: National Pesticide Information Center
